Dogs that reportedly mauled homeless man to death are released to owners
The Hawaiian Humane Society released two dogs today to their owners after the dogs allegedly mauled a homeless man to death in Kalihi.
Suzy Tam, Humane Society spokeswoman, said police authorized the Humane Society to release the dogs as long as the owners could safely contain the dogs at home.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 52-year-old Crisencio Aliado and said he was homeless. Aliado died on July 29 of multiple dog bite wounds, the office said. His manner of death was pending further investigation.
The manner of his death can determine whether police open a criminal investigation.
For now, police have opened an unattended death case, a police spokeswoman said.
Tam said police asked the Humane Society to secure the dogs on July 30, and staff performed standard health checks on the animals. She could not release further information on the dogs.

Seems those mutts got a taste for homeless meat. I gots me an idear.
New acceptable solution to controlling the homeless population?
I thought that dogs that attack people, especially if viciously, are supposed to be put down.
Me too, but I guess it depends on who is the victim.
Nah. They become police dogs. That’s what happened when those 2 Rotties attacked a man after the owner opened the front door and let them loose. He lost custody to the Humane Society. They were saved by the intervention of HPD dog trainers and a veterinarian. Funny that vet eventually got nabbed by the DEA and is no longer practicing.
One of the news mentioned the man that passed actually owned a condo in nuuanu but rent it out to another family so they would have a place to stay. If true he must have been a very giving person.
Oh. So, are we to assume that the Hawaiian Humane Society has now elevated the lives of mutts above those of human beings? Is this how we deal with the killers of Mr. Aliado, by returning them to their owners, just so long as they agree to keep these killers at home? Where is the justice in that? These animals have proven themselves to be unfit to live amongst us. Why are they being given the benefit of the (nonexistent) doubt? The owners of these mutts need to be held criminally AND civilly liable for the death of Mr. Aliado. Any less is a gross miscarriage of justice. Who speaks for Mr. Aliado now? And who is next when these mutts inevitably run amok once more?
“…the dogs allegedly mauled a homeless man …” “His manner of death was pending further investigation.”
They still don’t know the Cause of his death. Wait. Give them time to investigate.
Yes, we don’t know what happened.
Maybe he was chanting, dancing or moaning or in some medical/health state and the dogs attacked him.
Maybe he inadvertently went into their yard and the dogs were protecting their family. All the details should be released so people don’t second guess.
Kill the dogs and charge the owner with manslaughter.
Go after the homeowners insurance.
All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.
Im surprised that HPD authorized the release of the dogs back to the owners pending the investigation …..usually dogs that have injured or killed a person are put down as they are considered dangerous especially pit bull breeds which are an aggressive species…if these dogs escape from their owners again the community will be at risk because there is nothing to prevent them from attacking other people…..
Entirely inappropriate. These dogs were running as a pack and killed a man. Sorry, there’s no way they should be allowed back in the community. The owners who negligently allowed their dogs to run loose aren’t responsible enough to possess dogs that have proven themselves vicious. The days of “one free bite” are long gone. Shame on the Humane Society!
Returning the dogs to the owners creates a liability exposure for the Hawaiian Humane Society and the city.
So will the Humane Society take responsibility for any other person killed by these dogs?
why is homeless = worthless?
Advertiser, interview the dogs owners! Get a story and put them in the news….
Unreal!!!!! Just plainly UNREAL and PATHETIC.
Who will be the dogs next victim! Was Mr. Aliado on their property or not? This is another vague report sa!
