We all love “win-win-win” situations — so let’s be cautiously optimistic about an impending biogas project that could generate over $1 million for the city.

The contract: Hawaii Gas will invest in infrastructure to capture and process biogas from the city’s Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ewa Beach. The company will pay the city for the plant’s biogas, which, instead of being flared into the atmosphere as it currently is, will be turned into natural gas for consumer uses such as cooking and heating.

It’s a nifty concept of resource recycling and revenue generation — one worth checking in on 12 to 18 months from now, when it’s slated to be operational.

Let’s go all in for U.S. volleyball team

Let’s hope the 2016 U.S. men’s volleyball team, upset by Canada Sunday in its Olympic debut, has gotten its first-match jitters out of the way.

The team features members with Hawaii ties: brothers Erik and Kawika Shoji (sons of Dave Shoji, longtime University of Hawaii women’s volleyball coach) and setter Micah Christenson.

Sunday’s play wasn’t pretty — serves went into the net or sailed long, kill attempts went wide and blocks were missed. Still, Hawaii fans need to cheer on the U.S. team and our local boys, win or lose.

After a day of rest, the team today faces Italy.
