‘Pokemon Go’ players blamed for damage at historic fort

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. >> A fort destroyed in the Revolutionary War is again fending off attacks — this time from “Pokemon Go” players.

Caretakers of Fort Phoenix in Massachusetts say players of the popular smartphone game are damaging the historic site.

Gary Lavalette, volunteer caretaker at the fort in Fairhaven, near the Rhode Island state line, says people have been leaving trash, vandalizing historic structures and publicly urinating. He told WLNE-TV that a stone wall was taken apart with a crowbar and parts of the property look like a “minefield” because people are digging up the ground.

The Fairhaven Historical Commission says hundreds of “Pokemon Go” players have been flocking to the fort, often at night, because it’s where a rare Pokemon can be found.

The fort was destroyed by the British in 1778 but later rebuilt.

Shame, shame! A game that’s players disregard rules and regulations of significant and historical properties shouldn’t be taken lightly ! It’s an insult to our heritage and the citizens of this country. Where is thy honor? Where is thy class? Under the rocks of ignorance and lack of grey matters? Surely, in this day and age , we must have retain some semblance of dignities in our lives, or have we resort to an uncivilized society!

Who decides where the Pokedudes hang out? Is it an actual person or an algorithm?

If it is a person (or company) can’t they be held responsible for the damages? I know they won’t let you play if you don’t agree with their terms of service (including forced arbitration, no jury trial and no becoming a party of a class action suit against the maker), but what if you’re the owner of property damaged by a player, but you, yourself, never signed up with the company and didn’t agree to the ToS?
