Firefighters extinguish two-alarm blaze at Discovery Bay
Honolulu firefighters extinguished a two-alarm fire Wednesday night at the high-rise Discovery Bay condominium in Waikiki.
Nearly three dozen firefighters responded to the 11th floor of the 40-story building at 1778 Ala Moana Boulevard at about 7:20 p.m. and found smoke and flames coming from a unit, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins.
One person was home when the fire broke out, Jenkins said.
“He was alerted to the fire by popping noises, saw the flames, and was able to escape without injury,” he said.
The fire activated the building’s fire alarm system and residents evacuated before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters extinguished the fire by 7:32 p.m.
