A major remodel is in store for Palace Station, the venerable “locals” casino a mile west of the Strip.
Plans reportedly include demolition of the Courtyard Rooms to clear the way for a new 600-room hotel tower; a casino expansion, including a sports book revamp and a new bingo room; at least two new restaurants and downstairs buffet; a pool deck with cabanas; and possibly an upper-floor movie theater and bowling alley.
Timetables haven’t been divulged, as the plan is pending approval from city planners.
Palace Station opened in the ’70s as the Bingo Palace, and was the first casino of the many that now make up the Station Casinos empire.
Cracker Barrel: Lines were reportedly 70 deep for the opening of Las Vegas’ first Cracker Barrel last week at the Silverton. The Southern-style comfort food restaurant has a huge following at its 650 outlets in 43 states. An attached county store is part of the experience. A second Cracker Barrel on the east side of town is scheduled to open in August.
Holo Holo: A new bar called Holo Holo, the Happy Bar has opened at the California downtown, part of an ongoing restaurant and bar makeover at Boyd Gaming casinos throughout Las Vegas.
Hot deal: Ellis Island is advertising 20-ounce microbrews for $1 when “the temperature hits 100 degrees.” That will be most days this month anyway, but the deal appears to be good daily from noon to
5 p.m. in the karaoke lounge regardless of the temperature in August.
Question: How much are tickets to the Avengers exhibit at Treasure Island?
Answer: Tickets to “Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N.” are $34, $24 for children ages 4 to 12. There’s also a $5 charge to rent a “device” that you almost have to have to navigate and participate.
Then there’s a $35 up-sell at the end to get photos and “ID,” which any kid or comic freak also has to have.
