The Ewa gate of Ala Moana Regional Park was reopened at about 4 p.m. Friday, a few days earlier than originally anticipated.
A problematic sinkhole opened up on Ala Moana Park Drive just makai of the Ewa entrance, across from Kamakee Street, on July 19, forcing park-going motorists to use only the Diamond Head entrance across from Atkinson Drive.
City officials initially estimated repairs would be done at the beginning of August. The opening comes just in time for dragon boat races taking place this weekend in the waters off Ala Moana.

The man ran in toward Highway 130.
The man is described as in his mid-20s to early 30s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, with a dark complexion and thin build, police said. Police said the man was wearing baggy tan pants with many pockets, a gray or silver Quiksilver T-shirt and a baseball cap.

Propane leak clears building
Occupants were evacuated from a building Friday due to a leak in a 1,150-gallon propane tank at Miyake Concrete Accessories in Lahaina.
Maui Fire Department officials said crews were at Ulupono Street, where a leak at the bottom of the propane tank was found at about 11:20 a.m.
There were no illnesses or injuries reported, but fire crews remained at the site as Amerigas personnel emptied the leaking tank into a mobile propane tanker.
