Hawaii’s Tatiana Weston-Webb and Malia Manuel won their respective Round 4 heats on Thursday to advance to today’s quarterfinals of the women’s division of the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach, Calif.

Manuel eliminated Hawaii’s Coco Ho, 13.77-11.90 in a rematch of last week’s final of the Supergirl Pro won by Ho. Weston-Webb defeated Australia’s Laura Enever, 14.16-13.00 while WSL Tour rookie Keely Andrew upset Hawaii’s Carissa Moore, 12.63-12.27.

In the men’s competition, four Hawaii surfers advanced to today’s Round 4 after winning their respective heats: Keanu Asing, Sebastian Seitz, Kiron Jabour and Torrey Meister. Fellow Hawaii competitor Granger Larsen was eliminated.

Lee in fourth at Optimist golf tournament

Honolulu’s Grace Kyung Lee is at 2-over-par 146 and tied for fourth in the girls 13-14 age division after the second round of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships on Thursday in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Lee shot a 2-over 74 on Thursday at PGA National Resort & Spa.

Argentina’s Augustina Gomez Cisterna leads at 139.

In the boys 14-15 division, Honolulu’s Davis Lee is tied for 50th at 12-over 156 and Gunwook Baik, also of Honolulu, is tied for 56th at 158.

Ohio’s Austin Greaser leads at 141.

3 honored by Surfrider-Maui

Big-wave surfer, lifeguard and Hokule‘a crew member Archie Kalepa is among the inaugural recipients of the Surfrider Foundation-Maui Chapter’s Ocean Heroes Awards.

Also being recognized at the Aug. 13 event at Lumeria Maui in Makawao are environmentalist Tamara Paltin and Trilogy Excursions. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will include food, entertainment, eco-inspired silent auction and awards.
