A 26-year-old police officer, who is still in training, was arrested for drunk driving last week.

Balico has been on the force for about a year.
The department has initiated criminal and administration investigations.

Another one?…
Just a weekly statistic.
He wasn’t drinking he was at the game rooms in the area. Where’s the cops when you need them? Collecting under the table.
Part of his training: See how fast you can get off after a DUI while a rookie and have it swept under the rug. Let’s see if he gets a P or F
Depends on who he knows in the department.
So much for his career….lose money…hope he has another line of work…
would you hire him?
Nope….would you?
Good GOD…he’s 26 and this is probably his first offense!! I’m no blind promoter of cop worship and I think he shouldn’t be one, but this is no reason to say he should suffer for the rest of his life!
Police are held to a higher standard because of their power and authority. They are still human and do make mistakes.
D’uh! This why I said he SHOULD NOT be a cop anymore….BUT he also shouldn’t have to suffer the life of a pariah because of this mistake.
Stop the wishy-washy attitude and suck it up or wash out!
Why would you do something so dumb? I bet you really hate yourself about now. Maybe you saved yourself from becoming a bad cop later. Still young, go back to school and get into something different.
Amen
he can always apply for the TSA ….
Maybe he can be a politician.
Nope, will not get a fed clearance, substance abuse one of disqualification. DUI is an indicater. TSA pops unanounced drug and breath test.
Unfortunately, these are the only ‘type’ of people the Police Department can attract?
Perhaps the vetting process should be more selective in weeding out these potential ‘trainees’.
So true!
Foolish man! Make your family shame! No respect for your parents? You just threw out your vocation out of the window and for what? Alcohol? The death drink of many people including prominent men and women! Auwe!!
His rank too so they had to bust him!
No doubt Shopo will defend him regardless, I wonder whether he submitted to sobriety tests or refused them.
Wonder if there’s been any follow up on that cop that drove all the way back to Kailua after ramming other cars on the freeway, went home and acted like he was drinking in his house when his buddies came to process him?
Ayyyyyy, pilut!
Back in the days, Cops would neva turn on their own for petty stuff like this. The code was strong. But now days this new generation are poison.
The new gen of officers are probably instructed to bring in numbers. Like citations and arrests. It gets the officer out of their air condition car and also makes the supervisor look good which could bring “brownie” points for a position vacancy or promotion. So those old code days are gone and those officers are long retired.
So areyou saying your that’s the attresting officer should get him ho ?
meant to say, should arresting officer let him go ?
Apparently there were enough facts to make an arrest if Balico was a danger to himself or the public. The officer did the right thing & made his supervisor deal with hallway chatter for a few days. My previous comment was meant to explain that there’s probably a certain quota of arrests or citations for officers in each area. My friend just got a citation because her rear tires crossed the line when the light turned yellow & she got a red light tag. This tells me the officer really needed to turn in his quota.
agree, arresting officer did the right thing.
Drunken driving is not “petty stuff.” Thousands of innocent lives are lost each year due to drunken driving.
I thank the HPD for actually arresting one of their own. It’s what we all want to see, but I also understand it’s not easy.
Thank you HPD!
Yes, thanks for arresting the rookie. Let’s see how a captain or major will be treated.
I think he’s a Recruit….not a sworn Officer yet.
OOPS….being in the Force over a year must be in Field Training Enforcement Program (FTEP) which is still on probation.
Rap Back! On the list.
Oh bummer dude, now you got to go back and live with your mommy because you messed up. maybe if you suck Kealoha real good he might let you wash car’s. BABOOZE!!
Lol. All the fake “cops matter” people. The Donald foolowers. They hate the BLM group and beliefs but throw insult at HPD. Bunch of hypocrites. So much for the “I got Your Back Blue”.
DUI’s is like having a guy running around a shopping mall with a revolver and one bullet in the chamber. Playing Russian roulette and just spinning the barrel and clicking at random people as he or she walks by. At you, your family, your friends, and coworkers…even other police officers…
Intentional? I think so…EVERYONE is held to that standard I should think….just good sense.
