After 16 years, former Hawaii resident and singer Yang Soo Kyung made a comeback with her first TV appearance Saturday on KBS network in Korea. Yang was a popular and accomplished singer in the ’90s with nine albums. She debuted in 1987 and left the entertainment scene after marrying her manager, Byun Du-seop, in 1998.
Byun is known for purchasing the large parcel of land on Keaaumoku Street, bordered by Rycroft and Liona streets, for just under $50 million. It was bought under the name Cuzco Development USA LLC in 2007 and has been in the news recently amid controversy. Byun was also the CEO of Yedang Entertainment and died in his office in Korea in 2013. Yang, Byun and their son were residents of Honolulu. They wanted to turn the Keeaumoku Street land into a center for Korea town with restaurants, a community center and K-pop concerts by his entertainment company’s artists.
