A delivery driver was robbed of his truck’s tobacco cargo last month in West Oahu.
Honolulu police asked for help Thursday in locating four suspects in connection with the armed robbery of a delivery truck. The robbers got away with crates of cigarettes worth more than $26,000.
The robbery occurred at about 8 p.m. June 28 near Roosevelt Avenue and Essex Road in Kalaeloa.
According to police, a green pickup truck pulled alongside the delivery truck, and a passenger in the front of the green truck brandished a handgun and ordered the delivery truck driver to pull over.
“The delivery truck stopped on the roadway adjacent to the wastewater treatment center, and the victims were ordered to exit and lie face down on the ground,” according to a CrimeStoppers news release.
Additional suspects in a white sedan then arrived at the scene, and the truck driver and a passenger were ordered to unlock the rear of the delivery truck, police said. The robbers removed 35 yellow crates containing 290 cartons of cigarettes.
Police said the suspects fled in an unknown direction. The victims described them as males wearing black clothing with some type of cloth covering the lower portion of their faces. The suspects spoke pidgin, police said.
The suspects’ vehicles are described as a green older Nissan pickup truck with Cadillac-type rims, and a white sedan.
