A 32-year-old man died Saturday after crashing his motorcycle on an H-1 freeway offramp near Honolulu Airport and then falling off the ramp, police said. The man was driving a 2013 Harley-Davidson westbound on the H-1 when he crashed at the top of the ramp at about 4:50 a.m., police said. He landed on the lower ramp and died at the scene. Paramedics said he was wearing a helmet. It was the 25th traffic death on Oahu compared to 27 at this time last year.
Fires in Kapolei prompt H-1 lane closure
Firefighters extinguished two wildland fires that closed a lane on the H-1 freeway Saturday afternoon in Kapolei.
The first fire was reported near the eastbound side of the H-1 at about 2:40 p.m., and firefighters found two fires burning about a quarter-mile apart, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins. Police closed one eastbound lane and the Kualakai offramp while firefighters battled the blaze.
Seven fire companies and three tankers were deployed. Firefighters extinguished both fires, which burned about an acre combined, at 4:30 p.m., Jenkins said. No one was hurt. Firefighters were investigating each fire’s cause.
Girl in critical condition after pool trouble
A 7-year-old girl was in critical condition Friday evening after she was found unresponsive in a pool at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki. Lifeguards performed CPR until paramedics arrived. The girl regained a pulse and received advanced life support as she was taken to a hospital.
