Kauai Circuit Judge Trudy Senda sentenced a 25-year-old man Thursday to 10 years in prison for multiple sexual assaults on a child.
On April 7, Kyron M. Corpuz of Lihue pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree sexual assault, a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and one count of third-degree sexual assault, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Corpuz was arrested March 14 after a juvenile reported the assaults to school counselors, according to a Kauai County prosecutor’s office news release.
The assaults occurred more than once between 2012 and 2016, the prosecutor’s office said. The age of the child was not released.
“Child sex assault remains a problem in our community, and we will not rest in our efforts to achieve justice in these cases,” said Prosecutor Justin Kollar.
Defense attorney Mark Zenger had asked Senda to put Corpuz on probation rather than serving a prison sentence.
