UH Rainbow Warriors head coach Eran Ganot drew up a play during overtime, in a game against the CS Fullerton Titans on Jan. 16 at Titan Gym. UH won the game 86-79. UH will meet Seton Hall on Dec. 6 and Princeton on Dec. 7 as part of the 75th Commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The Hawaii men’s basketball team announced a second December tournament on its 2016-17 schedule today, as the Rainbow Warriors will participate in the Fox Sports Pearl Harbor Invitational at Bloch Arena.

UH will meet Seton Hall on Dec. 6 and Princeton on Dec. 7 as part of the 75th Commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor. California is also part of the event, which will be televised on Fox Sports 1.

“We feel humbled and privileged to be involved in such a special event,” UH coach Eran Ganot said in a release. “This tournament is great for our program in terms of national exposure and the chance to compete against a pair of top-notch squads from the East Coast.

“But this goes way beyond basketball. More than anything, this is a unique opportunity for our student-athletes to learn about and pay tribute to our fallen heroes, surviving veterans, and active men and women of the armed forces who have and continue to serve our nation. We’d like to thank Fox Sports and the 75th Commemoration of Pearl Harbor Committee for allowing our team and our university to be a part of this.”

UH also will play in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22, 23 and 25. Its only other announced game on the 2016-17 schedule is a meeting with North Carolina at the Stan Sheriff Center on Nov. 18; the four-team Rainbow Classic field has yet to be revealed.

The Rainbows last met Seton Hall of the Big East in 1994. They have never played Princeton of the Ivy League. Seton Hall went 25-9 and made the NCAA Tournament last season, while Princeton went 22-7 and played in the NIT.

The first Pearl Harbor Invitational was held last year at Bloch, a doubleheader of Oklahoma-Villanova and Oregon-Navy.

    this should be interesting.

  2. Bumby says:

From reading the article it does not appear that UH and California will play one another. Thus would it not be an opportunity for UH to play California at the SSC. This would give California another day in Hawaii and make extra change.

  3. Bumby says:

UH or one of the media sports channel should sponsor a tournament which includes Hawaii, Navy, Army and Air Force here on Oahu. That will bring a lot of interest to the military stationed here as well as national interest.

  4. HawaiiMongoose says:

Awesome! Two very good opponents that will draw fan interest and help UH’s RPI.
