Big Island police are investigating a reported home invasion in a Hilo apartment.
Police received a report that a man and a woman entered an 81-year-old man’s apartment on Haili Street at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday. The victim reported that the man threatened him with a knife before taking several items, including two antique firearms.
The woman reportedly took two cellphones before both suspects fled.
The victim was not injured. The case is being investigated as a first-degree robbery.
The woman is known to the victim as “Crystal” and is described as about 5 feet tall and 240 pounds with long, straight blond hair.
The man is described as about 6 feet tall with a muscular build.
Police ask anyone with information about this case to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
Big Isle hiker is badly injured in fall on Kauai
A Kona man remained in critical condition in the Queen’s Medical Center on Monday after falling from the Hanakapiai Trail on Saturday, Kauai County officials said.
The Kauai County Fire Department helicopter responded to the scene at about 8:45 a.m. after the 52-year-old hiker had fallen about 30 feet near Hanakapiai Stream. He had sustained severe injuries and was unconscious when rescuers airlifted him out of the valley to Princeville Airport.
Awaiting medics transported him to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition. He was then medevaced to Queen’s, where he remained Monday, officials said.
