Police ask for help in stopping illegal vehicle dumping in Kona
Hawaii island police are asking for the public’s help in stopping illegal vehicle dumping after hundreds of abandoned vehicles were found in Kona so far this year.
About 280 abandoned or derelict vehicles have been reported in Kona since Jan. 1, compared to 106 during the same period last year.
The public should be on the lookout for private or business vehicles that may be dumping automobiles on the sides of roadways, said Sgt. Roylen Valera of the Kona Community Policing Section.
Dumping a vehicle is punishable by up to a $1,000 fine, and the offender could also face a criminal littering charge, which carries a fine of up to $1,000 and community service.
“We would like to remind vehicle owners to complete the necessary paperwork if they dispose or transfer their vehicle to another person or entity, to ensure that they will not be liable for the vehicle if it is found abandoned on the side of the road,” Valera said. “If the paperwork is not completed, you will be responsible for any fines or towing charges. Our goal is to preserve the beauty of Hawaii island. ”
Anyone with information on individuals dumping vehicles is asked to call police at 935-3311 or Valera at 326-4646, ext. 259.

Good luck with that. Lots of territory = Lots of opportunity. Da boyz going strip ’em, then leave ’em up on blocks for the County taxpayers to deal with. You think they care about preserving the beauty of the Big Island? Who says crime doesn’t pay?
