Police opened an investigation into an attempted murder, car theft and car break-in Friday morning after a vehicle with several juveniles hit a police car in the McCully area and fled.
The incident occurred at 6:33 a.m. at King and Punahou streets near Washington Middle School.
Police said a juvenile driving a vehicle allegedly hit a police officer’s unmarked car. The juvenile driver and the car’s other occupants fled the scene but were later apprehended several blocks away from the accident. The police officer was not seriously injured.
21 fugitives arrested in Kauai operation
U.S. Marshals Task Force members and officers from the Kauai Police Department arrested 21 fugitives and executed 36 outstanding state arrest warrants during a four-day operation on Kauai that ended Thursday.
The operation focused on fugitives who were wanted for violent crimes, including homicide, assault, robbery, firearms and explosives offenses, sex offenses, narcotics, and gang and organized crime affiliations. Marijuana and loaded firearms were also seized in the course of the arrests.
Head-on collision kills 1 on Big Island
Hawaii island police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Friday afternoon on Highway 11 in the Volcano district.
The incident was reported shortly after 5 p.m. and involved an apparent head-on collision between a Ford F-150 truck and a compact sedan.
A Hawaii Fire Department report did not specify who was killed, but did confirm that the female driver of the sedan was extricated from the vehicle and was given CPR at the scene. An infant who was in a car seat in the vehicle was transported to an area hospital in undisclosed condition. The truck driver was not injured.
