A family of five was displaced from their home on Puu Road in Kalaheo after fire broke out shortly before 9 a.m. today, Kauai firefighters said.

The fire was under control by 9:30 a.m. and was contained to a bedroom and the living area of the single-story home. However, officials report that there was extensive smoke damage throughout the residence.

Fire investigators estimated that the fire caused roughly $60,000 in damages to the structure and its contents. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the family with their emergency needs.
