Obama: ‘I am worried about the Republican Party’

President Barack Obama talked with host Jimmy Fallon during a break at a taping of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” in New York today.

NEW YORK >> Asked during a taping of “The Tonight Show” whether he thought Republicans were happy with their presidential nominee, President Barack Obama had a quick answer.

“We are,” he said to immediate laughter.

“I don’t know how they’re feeling.”

But while Obama and fellow Democrats are feeling more confident about the general-election matchup shaping up between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, Obama said that what is good politics for Democrats in the short term isn’t necessarily good for the country.

“I am worried about the Republican Party,” he told host Jimmy Fallon in the interview, which will air in full Thursday.

“Democracy works; this country works when you have two parties that are serious and trying to solve problems.”

Obama said the public should want a Republican nominee “to be somebody who could do the job if they win” — implying he does not think Trump could. And Obama said he views Trump’s rise as an outgrowth of the GOP’s tactics during his presidency.

“I haven’t been enjoying over the last seven years, watching some of the things that have happened in the Republican Party,” he said. “What’s happened in that party, culminating in this current nomination, I think is not actually good for the country as a whole. It’s not something Democrats should wish for.”

In the interview, Obama also discussed the Democratic race, praising Bernie Sanders and Clinton while expressing confidence the party will unite for the general election.

“My hope is, is that over the next couple of weeks, we’re able to pull things together,” he said.

The government works when there are two parties who both want to do the best for the country.

The Republicans are on the cusp of nominating an overt racist as their standard bearer. That’s a concern.

I’ll vote for the Racist over crooked Hillary any and every time. The Racist has the most rallies punk-hated by illegals waving Mexican flags. They burn the American flags in protest which by the way our men in arms have died defending the rights of the First amendment. If you and the Judge had it your way you would open our borders and let more illegals in.
Oh and by the way is a rapist worst than a racist? Ask Bill and Hillary.

      • klastri says:

You think that making things up is a good debate technique. It just shows that your argument has failed.

It’s sad that you don’t understand that burning a flag – any flag – is protected speech under the First Amendment. What, exactly, do you know?

        You support a racist. Pathetic.

        • lespark says:

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
          What were the protesters doing?

        • lespark says:

Not making anything up. What the protestors did in San Jose and other places is protected is wrong. Even the Racist has rights.

        • lespark says:

Pathetic. Well what is worse, a racist or a rapist.

      • boolakanaka says:

Go ahead and vote….it’s almost mathematically impossible for Trump to win…..see: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/09/us/politics/donald-trump-republicans.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=0

He will lose by 7-8 million votes….Romney lost by 5 million.

        • lespark says:

          Depends who Trump runs against.

        • boolakanaka says:

Are you a pillock? The two nominees are Trump and Clinton– and the poll cited, which is across the board, by both Rs and Ds, held as very accurate, have Clinton winning by an appreciable difference.

hiliar promoted arresting and giving extended prison sentences to “super predators” democrat code for inner city black youths. hiliar attacked and defamed rape and sexual harassment victims of her husband, bill.

obama can’t bring himself to endorsing a racist supporter of rape and sexual assault, again.
