Police are asking the public for help in finding a 37-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting in Liliha and a related sex assault case.
The suspect, identified as Jorge Cano Jr., is armed and dangerous, police said.
The alleged sex assault took place at a residence on Waialae Avenue near the
Hawaiian Humane Society on May 29.
However, the woman did not initially report the incident to police.
A friend of the woman went to Cano’s home in
Liliha on Friday, police said. During a confrontation, Cano shot the man in the abdomen, police said. The victim fled but returned, and police were called.
Paramedics treated the 47-year-old man for two gunshot wounds to the stomach, according to an Emergency Medical Services report. He was taken in serious condition to the hospital.
During the investigation, police learned about the alleged sexual attack on a 27-year-old woman. The woman told police that she had been kidnapped.
Cano is still at large, and the cases have been classified as second-degree attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangering, kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault. No charges have been filed in the cases.
Police said anyone with information on Cano, described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 201 pounds, with a shaved head, brown eyes and tattoos, is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellphone.
