Repairs of the supporting tower of the National Weather Service Doppler radar on Molokai have been completed, but rebuilding the radar equipment will take several more days, the weather service said.
The radar system, which provides images of rainfall for most of Oahu, Molokai, Lanai and Maui, has been out of commission since Aug. 29 because the tower supporting it corroded.
The Weather Service says the radar dome is now on a new tower and that the radar will be back in service by Sept. 23, or perhaps as early the end of next week, depending on when the radar is rebuilt and recalibrated.
There are three other radar sites in Hawaii: on Kauai, and in North Kohala and Kau on Hawaii island.
