Three Boys and Girls Clubs, four YMCAs, Children’s Discovery Center, Aloha Harvest, Family Promise, Gregory House and Kokua Kalihi Valley are among the 150 local non-profit organizations awarded charitable grants by Friends of Hawaii Charities this year.
Friends recently distributed $1 million to the organizations from proceeds raised at the 2016 Sony Open in Hawaii. The PGA Tour event proceeds were again matched by The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Inc.
It was the 12th consecutive year Sony reached its million-dollar goal.
Grant recipients are “community-based, non-profit organizations which operate programs for Hawaii’s children, women, elderly and impoverished.”
Sony is among the five longest-running tournament sponsors on the PGA Tour. Fabian Gomez won this year’s Sony Open on the second playoff hole. The tournament returns to Waialae Country Club Jan. 9-15, 2017.
