Tips from the public led to the arrest of a man wanted for distribution of child pornography, the state attorney general’s office said Saturday.
Police arrested Andrew Patyjewicz at Ala Moana Beach Park, less than 24 hours after the office issued a public plea for information on his whereabouts.
Court records show an Oahu grand jury indicted Patyjewicz on Feb. 25 on two counts of second-degree promoting child abuse — a Class B felony. Each count is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. A bench warrant was issued and bail was set at $11,000, but Patyjewicz wasn’t taken into custody until Saturday.
Patyjewicz is accused of possessing and disseminating images and videos of children being sexually exploited. He had 57 videos containing children being sexually abused, and 12 of the videos showed children under the age of 12, the release said.
Overturned truck snarls westbound traffic
Honolulu police shut down all westbound lanes of the H-1 freeway near Makakilo on Saturday after a rubbish truck overturned.
Police reported the closure, just before the Makakilo offramp, at about 2:10 p.m.
The lanes were closed for several hours as crews worked to remove the toppled truck.
