Police have launched a negligent injury investigation after a sport utility vehicle collided with a crowded school bus in Kaaawa on Tuesday night, sending the SUV’s driver and three young students to the hospital.
About 30 Lunalilo Elementary School students and adult chaperones were returning from a field trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie.
Emergency Medical Services reported the SUV driver, a 51-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital in serious condition and three children were taken to the hospital with minor injuries following the 7:05 p.m. crash on Kamehameha Highway near Kualoa Regional Park. The driver of the SUV was pinned in her vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters, Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins said.
Wainiha man turns self in over hit-and-run
A 27-year-old Wainiha man who injured another man in a hit-and-run crash on Kuhio Highway early Sunday has been released after turning himself in to police, Kauai police said.
The man failed to make it around a turn in the roadway just after midnight Saturday and crashed into the back of a pickup truck that was parked on the shoulder in Lumahai, a Kauai County spokeswoman said.
An 18-year-old Kapaa man who was standing next to the truck suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to Wilcox Hospital and later transported to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he remained in stable condition, the spokeswoman said.
The suspect turned himself in Sunday morning and was booked for investigation of first-degree negligent injury and leaving the scene of an accident.
