Police served a search warrant at a Mahakea Road home about 7:20 p.m. today to check on animals in a reported puppy mill operation in Kahaluu.

Police served a search warrant at a Mahakea Road home about 7:20 p.m. Saturday to check on animals in a reported puppy mill operation in Kahaluu.

Police responded Saturday morning to a report of live dogs being thrown into a city trash bin on Mahakea Road and found one live dog and one dead dog, police said.

Based on the condition of the dead dog, a hound mix, officers arrested one man for investigation of second-degree animal cruelty case.

The second dog was taken in poor condition to a private veterinarian’s clinic for treatment.

A Hawaiian Humane Society spokeswoman said authorities are waiting for a search warrant to be approved to enter the property and assess the condition of other dogs heard on the property.

Police said there may be another 20 dogs inside.

The man arrested was also arrested in 2005 for a similar case and the Humane Society confiscated multiple dogs, but they were later returned under a judge’s order, the Humane Society spokeswoman said.

I have lost all respect for judges in Hawaii. Are they afraid to order harsher punishment? How can an abuser’s record be wiped clean? As a dog lover I cannot understand how a teacher could be so cruel! I feel sorry for his students!

  5. Oahuan says:

Judge should sentence the owner to 10 years in a rubbish bin. Trash belongs in trash bins.

Put this animal in a cage and throw away the key. Let this animal sit in own crap.

Chain him in some barn on a ranch and let him live with the animals where there’s no bathroom.

What a mess. This story jumps between today and yesterday with little regard for what’s been done vs. what HPD is waiting to do.
Did a 6-year old update this story?
Never mind, he or she would have done better.

  10. Tarball says:

The pooches are worth more than this POS. . . . . and, probably smarter!

I really feel for those dogs who have no means to address this cruelty. But since this has happened befe…enough is enough…show no mercy and make sure he is incarcerated and let the penal community handle. If not get our own community to handle. Haven’t we often spoke of “Zero Tolerance”?

  12. BIG says:
