UH basketball team signs junior college guard
The Hawaii basketball team has signed Larry Lewis, a 6-foot-2 guard out of Odessa (Texas) College.
Lewis averaged 11.1 points on 49.1 percent shooting from the field for the Wranglers, who went 27-6 in the recently completed season. He shot 40.7 percent on 3-pointers, though just 55.4 percent at the free-throw line. He played primarily off the ball, contributing 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
“I’m just honored and appreciative of the university giving me this opportunity to come play for them,” said Lewis, who chose UH over Portland State. “When I came on an official visit (to Hawaii), I fell in love with it. I got a good vibe from the whole coaching staff.”
Lewis, who previously played at Division I Texas-San Antonio, has two years of eligibility remaining. He is the sixth player to sign with the Rainbow Warriors for the 2016-17 season. In addition, UH also recently added walk-ons Brian Garrett and Darryl Matthews out of California junior colleges.
UH has two more scholarships to assign for next season. The spring signing period has ended, but players can still be added with scholarship agreements.

I would also choose UH over Portland State, are you kidding?
they also better use the last 2 scholarships on bigs.
Remember promising point guard Dominic Waters? He played two seasons for UH, then left to finish his career at Portland State.
I agree, need a couple bigs as the roster is very guard-heavy.
I think Lewis is important even though we have lots of guards. He provides experience for our good but young guards. I agree about the Bigs. Even though Ganot wants to almost run a 4 guard offense, we need another guy whose a natural to be the “inside” of our “inside out”.
That’s interesting. Last year the Bigs accounted for the most points per game, about 50. The Bigs that left, we still have Thomas, accounted for about 40+ points per game.
Don’t hold your breath. Supposedly the 2 bigs being waited on are Gibson and some Swedish Center? But not of the quality that is needed.

I think G. Johnson would be a good addition, but he’s supposed to visit N.C. State by the end of the month. If Wolfpack offer, I assume he’d take it even though his playing time will be a lot less than if he came here.
I think Kentucky, Villanova and North Carolina got the quality guys we were looking for.
Led his team in minutes and was all-conference. Good get IMHO.
