Three people, including a 3-year-old boy, are recovering after a multivehicle crash involving an E Noa trolley bus, a rented Jeep and pedestrians.
The accident at Ala Wai Boulevard near Lewers Street initially closed all lanes of Ala Wai Boulevard Saturday afternoon as paramedics, police and firefighters responded and cleared the scene.
The victims, visiting from Japan and Las Vegas, said the trolley bus hit the toddler, who was crossing the street with his parents in a stroller, and also hit the Jeep, said Jessica Lani Rich, of the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii, which is assisting the injured tourists.
Bystanders brought the boy to the sidewalk and also helped a 58-year-old woman and 60-year-old man injured in the Jeep, Rich said.
Paramedics took all three victims to the hospital in serious condition, according to an Emergency Medical Services Report.
The boy and his parents are from Japan and the people in the Jeep are from Las Vegas, Rich said.
She said the visitors from Las Vegas wanted to thank the people who rushed to their aid.
“They (the bystanders) were extremely caring and compassionate,” Rich said.
