Kapolei scored eight runs over the first three innings en route to shutting out Radford 9-0 in the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Division II baseball semifinal at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo on Friday.
The Hurricanes will play Kamehameha-Hawaii in the D-II championship at 7 tonight. The Warriors beat St. Francis 9-1.
Kapolei jumped on Radford with a four-run first and a three-run second. The Hurricanes took advantage of two walks and hit batter in the first. Mykah Kuratani drove in the first run with a single and Joseph Ching doubled to left to drive in two more. Andrei Stoyanow’s sacrifice fly capped the inning.
Kapolei got more gifts in the second, using a walk, a balk and two hit batters to load the bases for Corey Slade. Slade singled in two runs and Kuratani later singled to left for the third run to make it 7-0.
Garrett Wong took advantage of all the support, allowing two hits over five innings and striking out five. Kyler Nakashima finished the final two innings, fanning three.
Ching was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Slade and Kuratani each went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In the Warriors’ victory, Tai Atkins pitched 6 2/3 innings and struck out 13 while allowing just three hits and an unearned run.
Kobie Kinzie batted 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to pace Kamehameha-Hawaii’s offense. Daylen Calicdan and Jaisten Cabatbat each scored two runs and Brandyn Lee-Lehano drove in two runs.
