Kalanianaole Highway will be closed in both directions between Hanauma Bay Road and Sandy Beach from 9:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. tonight and every Friday throughout the month of May for road improvements.

The state Department of Transportation said workers are restriping lanes and replacing signs during the overnight hours. Motorists traveling on Kalanianaole Highway are advised to take Lunalilo Home Road, Hawaii Kai Drive and Kealahou Street as an alternate route around the construction zone.

Electronic message boards have been posted near Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach to inform motorists of the closure. Special duty police officers will also be on site to assist with escorting emergency vehicles through the closure.
