Dunkin’ Donuts returning to Hawaii
Aloha Petroleum Ltd. will open 15 new Dunkin’ Donuts locations on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii island, with the first spot to open in 2017.
“This new business venture will complement our existing retail offerings throughout the islands and help us diversify our portfolio,” said Aloha Petroleum President and CEO Richard Parry, in a statement.
“We are thrilled that Aloha Petroleum will be developing the brand throughout the Hawaiian Islands,” said Grant Benson, vice president of global franchising and business development, Dunkin’ Brands.
The national chain previously had done business in Hawaii through a franchisee that shuttered its locations years ago.
In the fall, Dunkin’ Brands announced plans to close 100 stores, while it proceeded with plans to open other new locations. Dunkin’ Brands is also the parent company of Baskin-Robbins ice cream shops.

Wow Sports Authority goes down, and Dunkin’ Donuts returns. I’d rather have the former. The latter doesn’t do anything for us – everyone knows that donuts are unhealthy. They’ll fail here again.
With all the larda**es here? They may do quite well…
With all the L*A*R*D*A#S#S#E#S here? They’ll do quite well…
Are you one of those “Look at me. I’m better than you” people?
Just in your case
Your usual shibai comments. Boring……….
shibai
Rookie posters. Copy others as they have no clue what to say. Boring……..
The local sovereignty folks-all 50 of them-will scarf these down while condemning American rot and conspiracy to fatten them further.
Ooo allie: forever student, UH athletics hater, alleged Native American, alleged woman. Or, or: disgruntled local guy who doesn’t want to tip his neighbors off and suffer the consequences. We’ll never know will we?
cops must be stoked. and allie is still a troll.
YEEESSSSSS!!! I’ve been waiting for this moment since the one in Pearl City closed. Yeah I know it’s unhealthy but I love those munchkins.
mori might share a sugar doughnut with his only indigenous friend
I like the munchkins myself. We can share a box as eating the whole thing by myself will give me a stomachache.
Why did they close and leave Hawaii again?
Previous holders of the franchiseeship didn’t want to do it any longer. It was held by a family.
And they didn’t want to sell the franchiseeship?
Interesting.
In moderation, Aloha and Welcome back Dunkin’ Donuts.
Come to think of it, what happened to the other donut guys from maui, who were on the side of the road on Oahu, trying to sell their round, hole in the center, carbo, fried diabetes causing pastry, that had no store on Oahu? What wuz their name? I heard they have not been on oahu for years now.
Wow! Just what Hawaii needs… more junk food to fuel obesity and diabetes. Unfortunately, they see a “growing” market here for their business and if they proliferate here with various locations throughout the islands, our Kama’aina will be “growing girth-wise” with them.
Obesity and diabetes have been a problem here in Hawaii for a while now, and have a lot more to do with “two scoops rice and mac salad” than anything else. Maybe our Kama’aina just need to exercise a little moderation.
Problem is way too many people willfully fail to take care of themselves so do not blame the companies or you would have to go after every food serving business.
Everything in moderation is the key.
Agree.
Consumers can choose to consume what they want in whatever quantity they want. Businesses don’t care one way or another.
Like everything else moderation is the key. Personally I do enjoy going to Dunkin when on the mainland, reading the local newspaper, a cup of hot coffee in hand, munching on a glazed donut. Can I di that here? Of course but chilling in a Dunkin shop is just relaxing to me. Hope the new enterprise works out.
That used to be my Saturday morning routine at the DD that used to be on Kapahulu (where Safeway is now). Glad I’ll be able to do that again.
yes, with free wi fi.
At least they’re coffee is better Starbucks.
Hardly. Not a Starbucks fan but sure prefer their coffee to DD.
Yes, DD coffee is awesome! Simple and good.
AWWRIGHT!! My fave Dunkin Donut spot was at Ala Moana, next to McDonalds, overlooking the inside of Foodland. This was on the Farrells’ side near Patti’s Chinese Kitchen.
Da good ole’ days.
I miss Lyn’s Delicatessen the most.
ahh…memories of pastrami on rye from my childhood days!
Yes, pastrami on rye with mustard and potato salad. Nothing to compare with locally since they left. Too bad the old couple couldn’t convince their kids to continue the business.
Yes too bad; my father used to take us to Lynn’s and I would have carried on the tradition with my own children had they remained open. Now days I’ve resorted to experiment making my own pastrami.
LOVED their pizza! Fell in love with pepperocinis and their dressing because of how they made it. Da good ole days with the steep walkways of Alas near Farrells.
Patti’s had just the right mix of pork and cat in their manapua. 😉
Why buy a donut when one can get a hot malasada?
And vice-versa…
If only Krispy Kreme opened a location on Oahu.
if only…
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing.
What weird comments…looks like another crazy week of enraged, stressed, but physically healthy rock people running around…
Maybe JC Penny, KMart, and all the other businesses we are chasing out or have chased out will stay. Yes, land prices keep going up because condo developers want to continue developing high-priced, high-rise condos. The City encourages them, waiving rules and requirements left and right.
They heard the marijuana dispensaries are opening soon; chocolate donuts.
LoL! Best comment yet!
They coming back? I didn’t realize Dunkin’ Donuts had closed its business in Hawaii.
never went to Dunkin’ Donuts so I didn’t know they left.
Me too!
Oil and coffee what a great combo, NOT.
I used to frequent Dunking Donuts in Kapahulu before they went down which at the time was a shock to me. The store was clean and the coffee was great.
To me I liked it better than going to a StarBucks which I thought was overpriced and too trendy for my liking.
last one i went to was in Chicago; place was lepo and the employees had a dead look in their eyes.
Hooray! Fat City, here I come!
