Emergency sirens being tested on Oahu today, Thursday
State and city emergency management officials will be testing sirens in various locations around Oahu today and Thursday.
The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and city Department of Emergency Management will be testing new sirens as part of the Statewide Siren Modernization Project, officials said.
Siren testing today, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be at Barbers Point Beach Park and Fort DeRussy in Waikiki. Thursday’s testing is scheduled for Kailua District Park, Kualoa Regional Park, and Kokololio Beach Park in Hauula.
Officials said residents may hear the siren sound six to eight times for 30-seconds to one-minute during testing which will also include short blasts known as “burps.”
