UH baseball drops series opener at Cal State Northridge
Yusuke Akitoshi went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in both Cal State Northridge runs that were enough to defeat Hawaii 2-1 today in the opener of a three-game series at Matador Field in Northridge, Calif.
Angel Rodriguez (4-3) held Hawaii to one run on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings to earn the win for the Matadors (-13, 2-8 Big West).
Brendan Hornung (3-6) gave up two early runs and allowed seven hits in six innings to take the loss for Hawaii (17-18, 6-4), which has lost three straight.
Johnny Weeks went 2-for-3 with a double — his first extra-base hit of the season — and scored UH’s only run in the seventh inning when Jacob Sheldon-Collins was picked off of first.
Weeks scored while Sheldon-Collins was caught in the rundown.
Marcus Doi added two hits and Kekai Rios led off the eighth with a single but was stranded on third.

Conner O’Neil got Josh Rojas to fly out to left with Rojas on third to end the eighth and finished off the ninth to earn his seventh save.
