Showcased in the form of a pop-up museum will be a look at the past 50 years of fashion created by alumni. Twelve returning alumni will present a group collection, followed by a look at creations by the junior class. Senior designers will close the show with their collections inspired by themes of lifestyle, environment and personality.
The returning designers are Terrilyn Okumura (1982), Matt Bruening (2009), Erin Rudolph (2009), Jennifer Fukino (2010), Joelle Perry (2011), Kristen Domingcil (2011), Kathryn Stringer (2012), Cole Lida (2013), Bejan Moers (2013), Chyloe Guerrero (2014), Tori Speere (2014) and Sarah Yamashige (2014).
Seniors whose work will be featured are Moses Gouveia and Kari Begay.
Gouveia said his collection was inspired by Manoa Valley and the fragrance of the awapuhi (ginger) flower. His nine-piece collection features swimwear, day wear, cocktail looks and an evening gown.
He earned his associate’s degree in fashion technology at Honolulu Community College in 2013 before continuing his education at UH. After graduating, he aims to start a women’s resort wear line, with an eye for minimalism and elegance.
Begay said she loves motorcycle culture, and her collection is centered around fashion for riders, with both safety and style in mind. She looked to Bond girl silhouettes for inspiration, with their combination of sophistication and allure.
