The parking lot at Waimea Bay Beach Park will be closed for two months while it is being repaved, according to a city news release.
Other improvements planned over the next 60 days include work on the parking lot curbs, an Americans With Disabilities Act ramp to the sidewalk, installation of speed bumps and re-striping, the release said Friday.
The project was delayed in February because of the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau surf contest, according to the release.
While the parking lot is closed, the public will be able to access the bay through a designated pedestrian route to the beach, away from the construction site, the release said.
Heavy rain prompts Maui water advisory
Maui residents and visitors are being warned to stay out of the waters at Honokahua Bay because of possible contamination.
The state Health Department on Monday issued the brown water advisory because recent heavy rain may have caused overflowing of cesspools and sewer manholes. The stormwater runoff could contain pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris, the department said.
