No tsunami threat to Hawaii after large earthquake near Ecuador

No tsunami is expected in Hawaii after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the coast of Ecuador on Saturday afternoon.

The quake happened about 2 p.m. Hawaii time, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. A destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.

Officials said tsunami waves of more than 3 feet are possible off the coast of Ecuador.
