UH hoops expects letter of intent from California shooting guard
High school guard Leland Green said he will fax his letter of intent to the University of Hawaii “sometime today” as the Rainbow Warriors’ first signee of the signing period.
Wednesday’s opening day of the regular signing period came and went without an announcement of signings by UH.
Green, a 6-foot, 2-inch shooting guard from Redondo Union (Calif.) High, verbally committed to UH last month and said he signed the binding document Wednesday as part of signing day ceremonies at the high school, but was waiting to fax it to UH assistant coach Chris Acker.
Guard Drew Buggs of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High and Australian point guard Matt Owies signed with UH in the November early signing period.
With the addition of Green, UH will have five scholarships remaining.
Green said he saw “a great opportunity to step right in” at UH, where four players have announced they will not return for the 2016-‘17 season.

Sounds like a promising player. Now lets get some height!
Not just height but someone with height and can walk and chew gum at the same time.
Good, but UH is lacking height Big Time!
It’s a new game now and small ball rules. Especially in the Big West.
Still need a force inside. They miss once in a while!
Small ball rulez? Where did you get that from? Caliber of players comes into the mix.
I think you need both, great guard play and some beef inside. The Big West tends to be a guard-oriented league, but as we saw in the NCAA Tournament you do need some big guys down low to protect the paint. Good to see new high school recruits coming in.
Caliber of player is a no brainer when it comes to recruiting . Make a statement that matters
time for Ganot to show us what he got. there is nothing left of this team. he better pick up some bigs, some bigs with some talent or UH is going from first to worst.
Ain’t got much time left and the reports are that there are only 2 offers out there.
(f) April 7 (noon)-20, 2016 [except for (1) and (2) below]:
Recruiting Period
(1) April 11-14, 2016:
Dead Period
(2) April 15-17, 2016
Evaluation Period (for certified events only)
o.k., o.k., shooting guard; so wea the shooting fowards or even shooting centers?
where’s the beef? need some inside presence or recruits like valdez that can leap out of the gym. Mike Thomas can’t be the only player over 6′ 7″. Come on coach know you can get ’em. or at least get some of the volleyball guys to walk on during the offseason.
seems the UH coaches have a hard on for guards.
Got Bigs?
Green was announced a long time ago, this is just to say he actually signed. Still only 6 scholarship players, even with walk ons, only have 2 bigs and 7 guards, biggest about 6′ 2″ Can’t even hold a full scrimmage, not even the 3 bigs that one minimum needs. And, with Thomas’ proclivity to getting into foul trouble, what are they going to do, play 4 guards?
Why is Purchase a guard too?
No worry you guys. Ganot was Coach of the year. He knows what he needs…I hope.
Seems like, mums the word?, why?
Hope Ganot is not already entertaining offers for his services? That would be really putting the screws to UH.
I think it’s a nice start for Ganot’s first class. All three guards bring something to the table. Green is agressive and goes hard to the basket. Buggs seems like a leader and Owies is just pure hustle and a good passer. Now to the bigs.
