Boy killed in Kalihi stabbing is identified
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified today a 16-year-old boy who died after a stabbing at a public housing complex in Kalihi last night as Wesley Ulugalu-Sula, of Honolulu.
The cause of Ulugalu-Sula’s death was pending autopsy results.
Police arrested a 27-year-old Kalihi Valley man Wednesday morning in connection with Ulugalu-Sula’s death and stab wounds to an 18-year-old. The suspect was booked on suspicion of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.
Police said there was a confrontation that resulted in both victims being injured. Ulugalu-Sula died at the hospital and the older teen sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred at the Kuhio Park Terrace Low Rise at about 9:45 p.m. on Ahonui Street.
Police arrested the suspect, who was also was injured, at the Queen’s Medical Center at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday. He was later transferred to cellblock at the main police station.

The suspect also was arrested for violating probation. Bail on that offense was set at $20,000.
The suspect has three felony convictions, starting from 2008, according to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center. The felony convictions were breaking into a car, abuse and second-degree robbery.
