UC Irvine batters Rainbows in series finale
UC Irvine sent 15 batters to the plate in a 10-run first inning and salvaged a game in the opening Big West Conference series of the season with a 14-4 win over Hawaii today at Les Murakami Stadium.
Parker Coss went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Matt Reitano doubled home two runs in the highest scoring inning of the season for the Anteaters (16-9, 1-2).
Matt LoCoco went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Hawaii (13-15, 2-1), which finished with nine hits.
UH starter Alex Hatch (2-3) allowed four hits, a walk and a hit batter and didn’t record an out before exiting.
Mitchell Miller (2-0) picked up the win for UCI with four shutout innings in relief of starter Cameron Bishop, who allowed four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings.
UH, which has won three of its past four series in conference dating back to last season, heads to UC Davis for a three-game set starting Friday.
