State Sen. Breene Harimoto will serve as a guest speaker at a Celebrate Life Honolulu event Saturday for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.
Harimoto (D, Pearl Harbor-Pearl City-Aiea) will talk about his battle with pancreatic cancer. Another speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Elliott, will talk about the benefits of naturopathic medicine during the free public event, which is set for 2 to 5 p.m. at Ward Warehouse, second-floor conference room, 1050 Ala Moana Blvd.
Mission Positive Films, a Hawaii-based independent movie company that produces inspirational and educational films, is hosting the event. There will be a screening of its documentary, “C — A Celebration of Life.” It follows 12 people from cancer diagnosis to survivorship. Among those featured in the film is South African social rights activist and retired Anglican bishop Desmond Tutu, who is a prostate cancer survivor.
The event will also feature music and food provided by Big City Diner, Kakaako Kitchen, Kincaid’s, Old Spaghetti Factory and Paina Cafe. There will be a drawing for gifts from supporting businesses.
