Florida police arrested one of Hawaii’s most wanted fugitives this week.
Luke Warner, 48, also known as “Lucky,” was wanted in Hawaii for skipping out on a 10-year federal prison sentence for meth trafficking, according to the U.S. Marshal Service. He is also facing sentencing for attempted theft and drug charges in Hawaii state court.
A U.S. Marshal Service spokesman said on Wednesday that Warner was still being held at the Broward County jail in Fort Lauderdale, pending charges of giving false ID to a law enforcement officer and possessing drug paraphernalia. He will be transferred to federal custody after he is charged by Fort Lauderdale authorities.
Warner had been on the run since April 2015, when he was supposed to return to the islands from the mainland, after a federal judge allowed him to travel to attend a trade show for his business and visit family members, marshals said. He was scheduled to turn himself in and begin serving his sentence in May 2015.
In October, U.S. marshals offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Warner’s arrest.
On Friday, Fort Lauderdale police arrested Warner, who was using an alias, after he was lurking around a mall, marshals said. He was booked for investigation of possessing drug paraphernalia and was released on bail, but an officer suspected Warner had given a false name and checked it out.
Police determined Warner’s identity and arrested him again Monday, the Marshal Service said.
Warner has a criminal history that includes armed robbery, theft, and weapon and drug possession. He was one of Hawaii’s top 15 most wanted fugitives, the Marshal Service said.
According to federal court documents, Warner pleaded guilty in July 2014 to receiving a pound of methamphetamine for distribution in 2012 and another pound of methamphetamine in 2013. He was sentenced in that case in March 2015.
