No. 5 Hawaii opened its Florida trip with a 4-1 victory over Tulane in a beach volleyball dual match Thursday in Deland, Fla.
The Rainbow Wahine’s lone loss came at No. 1 when the Green Waves’ Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner defeated Nikki Taylor and Lara Schreiber 21-14, 21-19 to improve to 13-1.
Hawaii (4-4) won its other four matches in straight sets, led by Katie Spieler and Emily Maglio’s victory at No. 2. The pair improved to 7-1 with a 21-12, 21-16 win over Lan Nguyen-Madeline Mertz.
HPU baseball beats No. 10 Cal Baptist
Matthew Gunter pitched 61⁄3 shutout innings as the Hawaii Pacific baseball team beat No. 10 Cal Baptist 2-1 on Thursday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Austin Inabata and Christian Kapeliela both scored for the Sharks.
HPU improved to 17-9, 9-7 PacWest, while Cal Baptist dropped to 23-7, 13-3.

Three Hawaii surfers advanced to the second round of the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach in Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia.
Dusty Payne and Keanu Asing finished second in their first-round heats Thursday, while Ho placed third.
Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz and John John Florence didn’t surf in the opening round.
