City officials have extended the deadline for nonprofit organizations to submit applications for grants-in-aid by one week, to June 28, because of high public interest.
To qualify, however, agencies must attend a mandatory informational session. As a result of the deadline extension, a fourth and likely final informational session is scheduled for the Mission Memorial Hearing Room next to City Hall at 10 a.m. today.
Available is a share of $5.5 million in grants. Oahu voters in 2012 approved a City Charter amendment requiring that the city set aside 0.5 percent of operating fund revenues for grants to nonprofits.
An organization is eligible if it provides services to the economically and/or socially disadvantaged populations, or for the benefit of the general public in the areas of arts, culture, economic development or the environment.
Through the first three informational hearings, 217 potential applicants have attended, said Jesse Broder Van Dyke, spokesĀman for Mayor Kirk Caldwell.
