Wahine softball wins twice

The Hawaii softball team rallied twice for two wins tonight.

Host Hawaii beat Iowa 5-4 on a walk-off and then rallied for a 3-2 win over Texas at the Hawaii Pacific Health Rainbow Wahine Classic.

Tayana Mata scored the go-ahead run for Hawaii (16-15) in the bottom of the sixth inning against Texas (18-6). She advanced to third base on a wild pitch and came home on a throwing error. Breanna Ojala homered for the first time this season in the win and pitcher Brittany Hitchcock struck out six.

Against Iowa (7-16), Nicole Lopez’s walk-off scored Sarah Muzik from second. Mata homered in the win, her second of the year.

Hawaii finishes the tournament on Saturday against Iowa at noon and Texas at 2 p.m.
