Police say a man in his 50s may have been sneezing when he was hit by a city bus and killed in Chinatown on Thursday night.
Honolulu Police Department Lt. Baron Lee said witnesses saw the man on the sidewalk, bent over as he sneezed when he was struck by the bus on Hotel Street.
The man was close to the curb, and it is unknown whether he fell into the street or got too close as the bus was pulling up to the stop, Lee said.
Police dispatch received the call at 7:34 p.m. in front of the Chinatown Gateway Plaza. Police shut down Hotel Street in both directions between Nuuanu Avenue and Bethel Street for the investigation.
