Hawaii volleyball sweeps Northridge
Freshman opposite Stijn van Tilburg and senior hitter Siki Zarkovic each put down 11 kills and No. 8 Hawaii completed the series sweep of Cal State Northridge with a 25-21, 27-25, 25-16 victory tonight in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation volleyball match in Northridge, Calif.
Junior hitter Kupono Fey added nine kills for the Rainbow Warriors (12-9, 7-9) in the win over the Matadors (12-9, 5-9). It was Hawaii’s first straight-set victory since sweeping UC San Diego on Jan. 31, a drought of 11 matches, and it moves the Warriors into sole possession of seventh place in the MPSF. Freshman middle Nainoa Frank had six kills with no errors on eight attacks and freshman setter Joe Worsley finished with a double-double with 31 assists and 10 digs.
The Warriors were without senior libero Kolby Kanetake, apparently sidelined with chronic back issues. Hawaii used a two-libero system with freshmen Brett Rosenmeier and Mamane Namahoe.
Jakub Ciesla led CSUN with a match-high 12 kills. After being outblocked 12.5-2 on Friday, the Matadors finished with an 11-6 edge tonight.
