BYU-Hawaii tennis coach Dave Porter broke the NCAA record for most combined career wins as the women’s tennis team swept Hawaii Hilo 9-0 on Wednesday at Holua Tennis Courts.
Porter earned his 1,328th victory (men’s and women’s) to surpass former University of Hawaii coach Jim Schwitters’ record. Porter’s resume includes 11 national championships and a .884 winning percentage since his first year of coaching in 1984.
HPU softball splits with Occidental
Dominique Walker continued her five-game hitting streak as the Hawaii Pacific softball team split a doubleheader with Occidental College on Wednesday at Howard A. Okita Field. The Sharks dropped the first game 3-2, but won the return matchup 5-2.
HPU (9-11) gave up a 2-0 lead in Game 1 and stranded 10 runners on base. Alexa McCoin took the loss on the mound while Britney Stevens led the Sharks with three hits and an RBI. The Tigers committed four errors in the second game to drop to 6-10.

Chelsie Childs Lambert allowed just five hits and threw six scoreless innings to lead the Seasiders (6-14, 2-8 PacWest) in Game 2. BYU-Hawaii senior Tiffany Smith went 4-for-7 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs in the doubleheader.
The Hawks (5-16-1, 1-9 PacWest) took a 5-0 lead in Game 1, but bad weather delayed the game until 1 p.m. Vanessa Pulido pitched a complete game for Holy Names and allowed six hits in the victory.
