Hundreds of plants, including trees, are on an interactive online map of the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus.
Click on a dot and out pops a photograph of the plant, with text that includes its scientific name, its uses and its ranking in terms of conservation.
Some 48 workers are employed as maintenance staff on the 320-acre campus; their jobs include the planting and care of the trees.
Roxanne Adams, director of building and grounds management, said the staff sometimes receives volunteer help to plant trees from a number of student groups, such as freshmen in a Summer Bridge program and students studying landscaping.
“I love my job,” Adams said.
