Holloway to meet fans in Waikiki

The Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort is showing Saturday’s UFC 196 pay-per-view in the Tapa Ballroom and offering kama’aina room rates for the weekend.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the PPV, which will be shown on three large HD screens, begins at 3.

Featherweight champion Conor McGregor fights Nick Diaz in a non-title main event with women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm, fresh off her knockout of Ronda Rousey, defending the title for the first time against Miesha Tate.

Waianae’s Max Holloway, who is ranked in the top five in the UFC at featherweight, will be there to sign autographs and meet fans.

Seasiders receive postseason honors

BYU-Hawaii senior forward Scott Friel was selected to the All-PacWest men’s basketball first team on Wednesday. Friel was the first player in Seasider history to record a triple-double and ranked in the top 10 in five statistical categories in the PacWest Conference.

Senior center Ian Harward and junior guard Cory Lange were named to the All-PacWest third team. Harward also received Academic All-American honors by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Senior Celeste Claw was named to the All-PacWest third team from the women’s program.

>> Chaminade’s basketball player Kuany Kuany earned all-conference second team honors for the men’s team. The junior finished second in the conference in rebounds and eighth in scoring. Teammates Rohndell Goodwin and Kiran Shastri received honorable mentions.

Lilia Maio was selected to the PacWest women’s basketball honorable mention team. She is Chaminade’s all-time leading rebounder with 537.

Concordia routs Hilo in baseball

Concordia romped the Hawaii Hilo baseball team 15-1 on Wednesday at Wong Stadium.

The Eagles (7-12, 3-4 PacWest) scored six runs in the ninth inning and finished with 15 hits. Brett Barker pitched seven innings and threw seven strikeouts to earn the win.

Jordan Kumasaka took the loss for Hawaii Hilo (2-3, 1-2 PacWest), which posted three hits and three errors.
