Pu‘u Honua Initial Contact Shelter, a homeless shelter in Hauula, is hosting a day of prayer and free food distribution from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Hauula Beach Park.
The event, which began Friday evening, aims to bring churches and the community together to help homeless people gain independence, a news release said.
Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., and food distribution will get underway at 11 a.m. Prayer and worship will be ongoing from noon until 6 p.m. There will also be live entertainment and various giveaways.
The homeless shelter, 54-058 Hauula Homestead Road, offers a 40-day program that prepares clients for self-sufficiency. The shelter provides access to training and education, employment assistance, recovery programs, help with legal and other documents, and resume preparation.

Workshops aim to help victims of domestic abuse
The Samaritan Counseling Center Hawaii will hold “Understanding and Preventing Domestic Violence” workshops at five Oahu locations throughout March.
The workshops provide information that can be used by churches and faith groups to reach out to people in abusive relationships.
