Wahine basketball team routs Cal State Fullerton
Hawaii seniors Destiny King and Ashleigh Karaitiana passed career milestones in the Rainbow Wahine basketball team’s 70-50 rout of Cal State Fullerton today in Fullerton, Calif.
King scored 11 points to become the 20th member of the program’s 1,000-point club and the Wahine extended their winning streak to seven with the victory at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Gym.
Karaitiana tied a season-high with five 3-pointers to move into second in program history in career 3s with 132. She passed Nani Cockett, who hit 128 from long range in her career. Megan Tinnin holds the record with 167.
Karaitiana finished with a team-high 17 points. Guard Briana Harris added 11 and forward Megan Huff scored 10 off the bench.
The Rainbow Wahine (17-9, 10-3 Big West) maintained a one-game lead over Long Beach State for second place in the conference standings. UH closes its road trip with a matchup against Big West leader UC Riverside (20-7, 13-0) on Saturday. The Highlanders clinched at least a share of the regular-season title with their win over CSUN on Wednesday.
UH never trailed against Cal State Fullerton (3-25, 1-13) and hit nine 3-pointers in the game.

The Wahine led 16-8 after one quarter and Karaitiana and Harris’ outside shooting accounted for all of UH’s scoring in a 12-2 run that stretched the lead to 36-18 going into halftime.
Karaitiana caught and passed Cockett with the first two of her four 3-pointers of the second quarter.
King went over 1,000 points when she banked in a mid-range jumper with 2:45 left in the game.
Samantha Logan hit four 3-pointers and led Cal State Fullerton with 20 points.
