LAS VEGAS » Police say they’re investigating the death of a California woman whose body was found in a Las Vegas hotel-casino laundry chute as suspicious.

The woman’s grandfather said she was in town with her husband celebrating her 27th birthday.

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the woman today as 26-year-old Kalli Medina-Brown, of Citrus Heights.

The grandfather, Tony Fratis, told KTNV-TV in Las Vegas that police told family members security video showed Medina-Brown walking away from her husband, Weslee Brown, at the D Las Vegas and toward a hotel housekeeping closet.

Efforts by The Associated Press to reach Fratis and Brown weren’t immediately successful.

Fratis told KTNV he hasn’t spoken with Brown, but thought he was still in Las Vegas cooperating with the investigation.

The coroner’s office said a determination of how Medina-Brown died is pending, with toxicology results due in several weeks.

Officer Michael Rodriguez said detectives were summoned about 2:40 a.m. Sunday, after Medina-Brown was found dead in the laundry chute at the hotel on Fremont Street.

The 34-story D Las Vegas has almost 640 rooms. A hotel spokeswoman issued a statement calling the death unfortunate, but declining to comment about the investigation. She said the hotel was cooperating with authorities.
